BOX ELDER, S.D. – A multi-agency law enforcement operation in Box Elder resulted in 14 arrests, 19 drug charges and the service of 21 arrest warrants over two days.
The October 21st and 22nd operation was led by the South Dakota Highway Patrol as part of Operation Prairie Thunder, a statewide initiative aimed at improving public safety through coordinated enforcement efforts.
Authorities say seven of those arrested faced drug-related charges, while seven others were taken into custody on unrelated offenses. The operation resulted in eight felony drug charges and 11 misdemeanor drug charges.
Officers also issued 63 citations and 53 warnings during the operation. Five drivers were cited for driving with revoked licenses, although no DUI arrests were reported.
Since launching in August 2025, Operation Prairie Thunder has been conducted in communities across South Dakota, including Sturgis, Hot Springs and Belle Fourche. Statewide, the initiative has led to 484 arrests, more than 1,200 drug charges and 277 warrants served.
Officials say the program strengthens cooperation among local, county, state and federal agencies while increasing law enforcement visibility and public safety throughout South Dakota.
